Synthesizer 9700 Series Modular Design
Teledyne recently introduced a new low phase noise frequency synthesizers designed to operate from 1.5 GHz to 12.8 GHz with a 25% max bandwidth. These advanced single loop frequency synthesizers are just one example of the innovative frequency sources produced by Teledyne Microwave.

Teledyne frequency synthesizer series 9700 models provide low phase noise performance of -120 dBc/Hz(to 3.2 GHz), -114 dBc/Hz (to 6.4 GHz) and -108 dBc/Hz (to 12.8 GHz) at 100 KHz offset. The 9700 series models feature channel spacing of 1 KHz, output power of +12 dBm, typ. and operating temperature of -32°C to +75°C.

Teledyne's novel design provides excellent microphonic performance with no phase hits. The complete synthesizer assembly is constructed on two surface-mount boards, thus ensuring very low cost and repeatable quality and performance and are ideally suited for systems where low phase noise and spurious are essential. These synthesizers offer cost-effective reliable solutions under the most demanding applications and environments. Custom frequency designs are accommodated by using Teledyne¹s unique modular construction, thereby controlling costs for small production runs. Key applications include SATCOM converters, test and measurement equipment, block up-converters (BUCs), point-to-point microwave radios and military communications.

The 9700 series units are supported by extensive in-house MIC manufacturing and measure only 8.8 in. x 3.6 in. and 0.8 in. high. They include SMA input and output connectors in addition to a 10-pin connection for computer control. The devices have been designed to meet ETSI 300019-1-4 shock, vibration and microphonic compliance. Evaluation units are available with software, mounting board and cables to run from a desk top computer. Custom designs are available for low quantities in the frequency range 1.5 GHz to 12.8GHz with a bandwidth of 25% or less.
